Louis G. Heider

Louis started his dry cleaning career as a route delivery salesman with Advance Laundry in the 1920's. After several years at Advance, he took a position with Staley Laundry & Dry Cleaning on Patterson Blvd.

From these two employers, Louis acquired the skills and knowledge to allow him to launch his own business on the lower level of the Gibbons Hotel on Ludlow St. in downtown Dayton. This location was good thru the war years, and in 1949 he took on a partner, Mr. Joseph C. Moorman, and together they formed H&M Cleaners, Inc. on Linden Ave. at Woodman Drive where they operated until 1959.

Forced to vacate the Linden facility, when State Route 35 was developed, Louis Heider bought out Mr. Moorman and opened Heider Cleaners, Inc. at its current location at 3720 Wilmington Pike. Louis G. Heider retired at the age of 65 but was still active in the business until his death in 1978 at the age of 78.

Francis Heider (Frank)

Frank joined his father in the business after High School graduation and a stint in the Army during World War II. Working side by side since 1949, the company continued to grow and Frank moved more and more into the management areas of the business.

Under Frank's direction, the building expanded with four separate building additions (Vault, storage, and production expansions). Frank retired in 1995 in order to reduce the overcrowded fish populations in Indiana and Ohio.

Frank passed away at home on Tuesday August 23, 2005, at the age 78.

Joseph Heider

Joe joined his father in the business in the 1979. Joe was asked to take the reins of the company in 1985. Since then, the business and building have continued to expand in many areas. Joe continues to uphold the Quality and Service standards started by his grandfather and maintained by his father throughout the years.

Heider Cleaners, Inc. has maintained a positive presence in the Dayton area for over 45 years. We are proud of both our Customer Service and the Quality of our product.
